The Impact of Technological Advancements on Society

Technology has transformed the world in ways unimaginable just a few decades ago. It has seeped into every facet of our lives, shaping our interactions, work, leisure, and even our thoughts. This essay delves into the multifaceted impact of technological development on society, both the positive and negative aspects.

I. Communication and Connectivity

Technological advancements, particularly in the field of communication, have revolutionized the way we interact with one another. The rise of the internet, social media, and smartphones has facilitated global connectivity. People can now communicate instantaneously with friends and family around the world. This increased connectivity has fostered a sense of global community and expanded access to information.

II. Education and Information Access

Technology has made education more accessible. Online courses and digital libraries have democratized knowledge, allowing people to learn at their own pace and convenience. This has the potential to bridge educational disparities and empower individuals to pursue lifelong learning.

III. Economic Advancements

The business landscape has been reshaped by technology. E-commerce, automation, and artificial intelligence have increased productivity, opened up new markets, and created innovative job opportunities. However, these changes also present challenges such as job displacement and concerns about privacy and security.

IV. Healthcare and Wellness

The field of healthcare has benefited immensely from technological progress. Medical advancements, telemedicine, wearable health devices, and health apps have improved patient care and access to medical information. However, it has also raised ethical concerns regarding data privacy and the potential for misuse.

V. Social and Cultural Shifts

The prevalence of technology has altered social norms and behaviors. People spend more time online, and virtual interactions have become central to our social lives. While this can foster connections, it has also raised concerns about the impact on real-world relationships, mental health, and the spread of misinformation.

VI. Environmental Impact

The production and use of technology have environmental consequences. E-waste, energy consumption, and resource extraction are pressing issues. Sustainable technology and responsible consumption have become critical areas for addressing these concerns.

VII. Privacy and Security

As technology becomes more integrated into daily life, issues of privacy and security have become paramount. Data breaches, surveillance, and cyberattacks pose significant challenges to individuals and institutions. The balance between security and individual freedoms is a continuing debate.

VIII. Conclusion

The impact of technological advancements on society is undeniable. It has shaped our lives in profound ways, presenting both opportunities and challenges. As we move forward, it is essential to navigate this landscape with awareness, ethical considerations, and a commitment to addressing the negative consequences. Society must strive for a balance that harnesses the benefits of technology while mitigating its downsides. In this era of rapid technological change, the responsibility of ensuring a positive impact on society lies not only with innovators but with all members of the global community.

Living In Digital Age

The movement of technology continues relentlessly, forcing humans to be ready to deal with the swiftness of the current digital era. Of course, we must understand the extent to which we can keep up with the speed and breadth of technology in this digital era; otherwise, we will be left behind and not comprehend how practical and efficient technology is for everyday life. As we can see, the digital age has influenced the pattern of human life and changed the way people work or learn.
This kind of change feels faster with the digitalization system that comes from internet technology. The ability to interconnect infinitely through the internet network gives digital space a very wide range. Digital space makes life more practical and efficient, making it possible to carry out various activities such as shopping, working, and studying solely through the internet network.
After the pandemic, activities utilizing digital space have increased. During the pandemic, we were forced to live by utilizing digital space because all activities were done remotely. One of the things affected is the learning system that requires lecturers and students to carry out teaching and learning activities only through video-based communication applications. Apparently, the utilization of digital space in learning has both positive and negative impacts.

1. Easy access to information
With digital access, it is easier for everyone to get the information they want. For lecturers, the ease of information helps them to get information on good teaching methods, find learning materials and so on. As for students, they can get information about the material studied from various sources on the internet.
2. Can be accessed by many people quickly
Speed is the power in the digital era. In the past, we needed to wait several days to get news and information; now, we only need to wait seconds to access the latest news via the internet. Moreover, almost all aspects of life have transitioned to digital and require an internet network, expanding the scope of the digital era, making it accessible to all groups. Nowadays, we can immediately obtain the information we want by simply searching for it on platforms like Google.
3. Making closer
Advances in technology can facilitate communication between different locations; social interactions, including learning interactions, can now occur solely through the internet. The digital era erases the distance between teachers and students in the world of education.
Not only are there positive impacts caused by the utilization of digital access, but the digital era also brings negative effects on learning. Here are some of the negative impacts of digital learning.

1). Characterless education
The role of educators, especially teachers in schools, as role models in character, will never be replaced. In education, one of the learning objectives is to shape students into individuals with character. This can be achieved when teachers and learners have face-to-face interactions. While modern information technology may revolutionize the learning system, the figure of a teacher cannot be replaced. Some people agree that face-to-face teaching is easier to understand and practice than distance teaching.
2). Makes you lose focus and lazy
Excessive surfing in cyberspace leads to reduced focus and concentration in understanding materials. Instead of using their time at home to review lessons, many students prefer to engage with entertainment platforms, consuming a significant amount of time. The excitement of accessing entertainment content often results in a reluctance to open educational materials that could contribute to knowledge enhancement.
Easily distracted by things not related to the lesson, we may find ourselves in a situation where, during our study sessions, notifications from our smartphones interrupt our focus. As a result, we end up spending more time opening these notifications, feeling like we've wasted valuable study time. Instead of dedicating time to studying, we might choose to surf the internet for non-educational content. Managing time effectively between learning and entertainment becomes a significant challenge that requires us to be wiser in our choices.
3). Information Technology Gives Uncontrollable Bad Influence
Since the internet is not bound by distance and time, we can freely access any site or content we desire. However, it is not uncommon for the available content to lead to negative consequences, with some content encouraging individuals, including criminals, to engage in activities they have seen.
This results in the promotion of promiscuity among teenagers as they tend to imitate what they see on social media. The easily accessible flow of pornography can pose a danger to the moral development of adolescents that seems difficult to control.
This outlines the exposure to the impact of digital technology that is developing today. It is crucial for us to respond wisely to both the positive and negative effects of technological advancements and use technology in accordance with our needs.

Tittle: How long it takes to change your life
Host: Nwal Hadaki
Description:
According to Dr. Mwarweel Malts (plastic surgeon in the 1950s) published his theory that to form new habits and leave old habits it takes 21 days, why 21 days are needed:
1. 21 days is considered a short period of time and that’s also considered a short of temptation
2. 21 days is also along long enough to be believable, difficult challenge but that doesn't mean it's impossible.
There are several factors that must be considered to form new habits or break old ones:

1. the complexity of your goal

2. behavior consistency affects the speed of acquisition.

So how long wiil takes to form a new habbit or get rid of an old one ?thare is study by the psychologist “Plippe Lally “titled how our habibts formed .

The study followed 96 people over a period of 12 weeks ,each person chose a new 12 week habit to work on.and after 12 weeks found that it took approcximately two to eight months in other for the task to become a habit and 66 days to be exact. So ,according to psycologist Lally if you want to know the tie required to form a new habbit or get rid of an old one the truth is that you may need 2 to 8 months and not just 21 days

The difference in time it took to form a habit was largely due to the tadk it self ,the person and their circumstances. Doesn’t actually matter how long it take as much as it matters that you have to begin with today and once you begin make sure to maintain your new habit and most importantly you don’t have to be perfect.

The result of my observation:

Lally's research indicates that, on average, it takes about 66 days for a new behavior to become a habit, but this can range from 18 to 254 days depending on the person and the nature of the habit. This emphasizes the point that forming habits is a gradual process and not a fixed, one-size-fits-all timeframe.

Factors such as the complexity of the goal, consistency in behavior, and individual differences play crucial roles in determining how long it takes to establish a new habit. It's essential to recognize that there is no magic number of days that universally applies to everyone.

The key takeaway is that forming habits is a personal journey, and the focus should be on consistent effort and commitment rather than a rigid timeframe. Additionally, embracing the idea that progress may take months rather than weeks can be more realistic and sustainable in the long run.
